IELTS Task 2 Sample Answer 37 - In some developing countries, it is difficult to get good teachers to work in rural areas which can have a negative impact on the education of children in those rural communities. Why do you think good teachers do not want to work in rural area in developing countries? What could be done to solve this problem?


The quality of education provided to students is dependent on many factors, the most prominent being efficient teachers. It is noticed that education of children in rural communities is adversely affected in some developing countries due to the difficulty to find good teachers who are willing to work in rural areas. There are many factors leading to this phenomenon and it can be tackled by taking appropriate measures.
One of the noticeable reasons why good teachers back away from working in rural area is because of the poor salary grade. Compared to the teachers working in cities, those in remote villages are often rewarded with a lower remuneration which may be a demotivating factor for teachers to choose work in villages. Apart from this, poor infrastructural facility is also another factor which acts as a hindrance in attracting proficient teachers to rural areas. Because of the of limited availability of resources like teaching equipment and proper classrooms, teachers often find it more challenging in delivering quality service to the students which in turn makes their job more stressful. In addition, the imbalance in student-teacher ratio also adds on to the burden of the teaching staff which can also affect the teaching quality. As a result of these factors, many skilled teachers are unenthusiastic about taking up employment in rural areas.
Since this situation has negative impact on the education of children in remote areas, immediate action needs to be taken to solve this issue. One of the key ways of persuading teachers is by providing attractive remuneration. If educators are provided with high remuneration and other monetary incentives, they may get drawn towards employment in rural schools as these help them to enjoy a higher standard of living. Government should also take adequate measures to improve the infrastructural facilities and other amenities in schools which in turn can boost the enthusiasm of teachers to undertake their work holistically without feeling burdened.
To conclude, competent teachers are imperative in an educational institution. Many teachers are reluctant to take up teaching in rural schools due to a number of reasons. This issue needs to be addressed immediately as this can negatively impact the future of children from such places.
