IELTS Task 2 Sample Answer 21 - Some people think that it is necessary to travel abroad to learn about other countries, while other people think that it is not necessary to travel abroad because all the information can be seen on TV and the Internet. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Travelling is an important source of entertainment for many. There is a thought among a few that in order to know about other countries, travelling to such nations is mandatory, while others are of the opinion that since all the information is available on the television and internet, the need to travel does not arise. Though such media can cater the necessary information, I believe that people should travel to other nations in order to get in-depth knowledge about that place.

A school of thought reasons that foreign travel is imperative to comprehend about other countries. This may be due the fact that nothing can be more convincing than real life experiences. Real life situations and experiences create a stronger imprint in a person’s mind than any virtual knowledge about the same. For example, the beauty of road trip from Manali to Leh cannot be captured in words but is to be experienced.

Others opine that travelling to a particular place is not required as essential information regarding it is available on various media. Many people often go on risky expeditions to different countries mainly to familiarise these places by providing meticulous information about the various cultures, traditions, cuisines and other hotspots of such nations. One best example is the channel named Discovery Travel and Living which provides such details. With the availability of detailed information on television and internet, the need to travel is of less importance.

In my view, experiencing the reality has greater importance than anything else in life, so is the case of travelling. The thrill involved while trying a new dish or a new activity should be experienced in person for the best understanding.

To conclude, travelling is a pleasurable activity. Although it is not mandatory to travel to a foreign land to learn about it, what I feel is that one can gain a complete picture about a country only by journeying to that place.
